Boulder, Colorado, Lawyer Handling College Student Disciplinary Matters

For college students that find themselves facing criminal charges, it is essential that they enlist the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney. At my law office, J. Scott Comas, P.C., I have been handling a wide range of criminal law matters for student and adult clients in and around Boulder for over 25 years.

Criminal charges are especially serious for college students. A conviction can have a drastic impact on your standing at school, your ability to secure financial aid and on your future. Before you talk to the police or investigators, contact me, criminal defense lawyer J. Scott McComas. I can help you understand your rights and how to deal with one of the matters listed below:

  • DUI / DWAI (drunk driving)
  • MIP (minor in possession)
  • Drug crimes (such as possession, sale or intent to distribute)
  • Assault
  • Trespassing
  • College pranks gone wrong, resulting in mischief or property damage charges
  • Shoplifting and other theft crimes

Drug Charges

In many cases, police will attempt to use one student against another to bust them on a drug charge. I am dedicated to representing the rights of students that have been arrested on a possession, sale or other drug charge that resulted from a sting operation involving another college student. I handle cases dealing with illegal possession, sale or distribution of prescription drugs like Xanax, Valium or OxyContin as well as narcotics like marijuana, cocaine, heroin and Ecstasy.

Bar Fights

It is quite common for college students, with seemingly unlimited freedom for the first time in their lives, to overindulge on alcohol. Some students become involved, directly or indirectly involved in a bar fight. If the police are called to break up the fight, a range of criminal charges can follow. I confidently represent students that have been charged with assault, destruction of property, public intoxication or other crimes that may stem from a bar brawl.

Out of State Parents

When students are facing criminal and disciplinary matters, their parents often want to be involved. However, it can be difficult for parents that do not live here in Colorado to take an active role in their children's legal matters. I understand that difficulties that arise when your child is facing criminal charges and you cannot physically be there to help. I make it a point to work as closely as possible with parents who are out of state, keeping them informed as to the status of their child's case and their options for seeking a resolution.

If you are a college student facing charges of assault or other criminal matters, contact me today to schedule your free 30-minute initial consultation. Flexible appointment times are available for your convenience.
